Museum of Moving Image Is Re-Opening
(released
Wednesday, April 14, 2021)
By Kimberly Burke
The Museum of Moving Image will re-open on April 30 for members and May 1 to the general public. Galleries will be open Fridays 2-8p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 12-6p.m. along with the Redstone Theater with 25 % capacity.
Since 2017, the Museum has housed an exhibition devoted to Jim Henson's creative process and career with more than 400 artifacts from the family of Henson. Envision 2001: Stanley Kubrick's Space Odyssey has been extended through September for gallery viewing. There is also an ongoing collection in the galleries that provides a look at the evolution of THE SIMPSONS character design.
The Museum of Moving Image is located at 36-01 35 Avenue in Astoria NY.
In a release, Museum Executive Director Carl Goodman said, "Though our in-person activity stopped in March of last year, we are proud to have spent the past year shifting our programs online. We also served our community as a free meal distribution point and early voting poll site, and created the Queens Drive-In with our partners Rooftop Films and New York Hall of Science. We are grateful to our members and staff who stuck with us through it all, the many supporters who donated to our fundraisers and Kickstarter campaign, and the new audiences we found across the country and around the world. We are excited to welcome everyone back to the Museum in Astoria, and to continue our online programming."
Time-entry tickets will go on sale later this month at movingimage.us.
