Reservations are not required, but it does ensure you will have a timed entrance. June 10th is currently full, but entry times for June 11th are available. The store is now located at 266 West 39th Street in Manhattan. The store has been operating since 1917 and became a book store in 1923. The shop is known for being the best resource for theatrical works.
Long time patrons and friends Thomas Kail and Lin-Manuel Miranda, along with Jefferey Seller and James L. Nederlander purchased the store from Rozanne Seelen. Seelen's late husband bought the store in 1958. The store had several locations over the years. In 2001 when the store opened on West 40th Street, a theatre troupe from Wesleyan University, Back House Productions. This became the resident theater company occupying the basement and starting musical rehearsals for Lin-Manuel's writing and Mr. Kail's direction of what became Tony Award winning In the Heights.
The new 39th Street location has been designed by Hamilton scenic designer David Korins and his team. An homage to European cafes and reading rooms, the space features a full service cafe serving coffee, teas, and light snacks.
