Alexandre Rockwell's new film SWEET THING is currently playing at IFC Center and only has a few screenings left. To catch this film is to feel like you walked into an art piece. Filmmaker Rockwell's own two children are cast in the seasonal summer story of time spent at Mom's with her new boyfriend who neglects them and a father who battles his alcohol. The cinema projection captures the beauty and innocence of two children for which the story is revolved.
We watched the film at IFC and the screening was followed by a Q and A session moderated by Alexandre Rockwell's colleague and friend Steve Buscemi to discuss Alexandre's filmmaking process with the audience. Buscemi was Rockwell's film IN THE SOUP, which played at Sundance back in 1992. Rockwell is a professor at NYU and was able to incorporate students current and alumni in the filmmaking process. The film has gone on to win the Berlin Film Festival's Crystal Bear award in the Generation Plus category.
