Cynthia Lopez, Bill de Blasio, and Stanley Nelson Oscar Nominated "Attica" Screening at Maysles (released Wednesday, February 9, 2022) By Douglas Lorah The Maysles Documentary Center is screening the 2021 release Attica on Thursday, February 10 and Friday, February 11. The Thursday screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker Stanley Nelson. Attica retells the story of the prison uprising in Western New York back in September 1971. Nelson and co-director Traci A. Curry utilize interviews with former incarcerated people, family members of the hostages, and first hand eyewitnesses as well as footage from archive tapes from inside the prison. The film's release last year marked the 50th anniversary. Nelson and Curry's Attica has just been nominated for a 2022 Feature Documentary Oscar. Both screenings are at 7:30pm and tickets are available at: www.maysles.org
