The New Plaza Cinema has a new home. On February 8, 2022, the Cinema announced on its Facebook page that a new home has been found at The West End Theatre at the Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew, located at 263 West 86th Street, between Broadway and West End.
Beginning February 18th, in-person screenings will commence. Initial offerings will focus on Oscar nominees, releases in acclaimed art film, reissued classics and special screenings with filmmakers and / or speakers in attendance.
New Plaza Cinema is the reboot of the historically loved Lincoln Plaza Cinema, whose doors closed in 2018. The goal is to continue to develop and expand culture and entertainment for a large local population of movie goers.
The initial weekend will show 7 films: Summer of Soul, Compartment No. 6, Writing With Fire, Nightmare Alley, Flee, Breaking Bread, and La Piscine.
The space is still being worked on. The screen shown in the picture below is 20 feet wide and a slightly wider screen at 22 feet is going to replace it in the near future.
