DOC NYC, America's Largest Documentary Festival, will have the 13th Annual Edition in theaters and online November 9-27, 2022.
Lifetime Achievement Awards will be given this year to Geralyn White Dreyfous a producer ad executive producer with over 180 credits in documentary films. Werner Herzog will also be given a Lifetime Achievement Award. Herzog has over sixty feature and documentary films to his credits. Herzog's film Cave of Forgotten Dreams was the opening night film of the first DOC NYC festival in 2010.
Director Stephanie Johnes' film Maya and the Wave will be the 2022 opening night film. The film profiles Brazilian athlete Maya Gabeira as she overcomes death and makes history in the male-dominated sport of big wave surfing. The film co-produced by Johnes and Jorge Leal has worldwide distribution rights available.
"We are elated to open DOC NYC with Stephanie Johnes' inspiring testament to self-empowerment and boundary-breaking, in a visually spectacular arena," said DOC NYC Artistic Director Jaie Laplante.
The 2022 DOC NYC festival will take place both in-person and online starting on Wednesday, November 9, with in-person screenings and events held at IFC Center, SVA Theatre and Cinepolis Chelsea through Thursday, November 17. The festival's online offerings will continue through Sunday, November 27.

Meet the Press is bridging the gap between political journalism and film through a leading showcase of the year's best issue-based short documentaries. Following each of this year's six programming tracks, filmmaker will join in in-depth conversations moderated by NBC News correspondents and anchors, including Meet the Press Moderator and NBC News Political Director Chuck Todd; NBC News Chief Washington Correspondent and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell; Host of MSNBC's Symone Symone Sanders; NBC News NOW Anchor, Stay Tuned Co-Host and NBC News Correspondent Savannah Sellers; and Co-Host of Stay Tuned and NBC News Studios head of documentary Molly O'Brien.
DOC NYC PRO Fall Conference is aimed to empower filmmakers as they take the next steps in their careers.
