NY Baltic Film Festival at Scandinavia House

The 7th Annual NY Baltic Film Festival opened November 6th at the Scandinavia House. The Nordic Center in America is back through November 17, 2024 with a mix of in-person and virtual screenings of the best new films from the Baltic region. From November 6-10, festival goers can enjoy screenings and events at Scandinavia House in New York. For those across the US, the online version will be available to viewers from November 8-17.

The U.S. premiere of Life and Love directed by Helen Takkin, Estonia, 2024 will kick off the festival November 6th. The film is set in 1933 Depression era and follows a young woman Irma who leaves her rural home to pursue a writing career in the city. A toxic power and manipulation dynamic takes hold as she becomes entangled with her boss at a local print shop. Irma begins to realize love and ambition come at a steep cost.

The in-person portion of the festival will wrap up November 10 with the NYC premiere of FLOW directed by Gints Zilbalodis, Latvia/France/Belgium, 2024. The animated adventure film follows a brave cat after a devastating flood, who teams up with a capybara, lemur, bird and dog to survive. FLOW is Latvia's official entry for Best Animated Feature at the 97th Academy Awards.
