A Documentary Grant Writing Workshop is happening Tuesday, December 3rd from 6:30pm-9:30pm at DCTV HQ located at 87 Lafayette Street NYC. The 3 hour workshop will cover the following:
- Anatomy of a Grant Application
- Finding Your Funders
- Brief Introduction to Budget
- Writing Tips
- Grant Resources
Jillian Schlesinger will be your instructor in the workshop. Jillian is an independent filmmaker, producer, writer and editor. Jillian produced and directed Maidentrip (SXSW 2013 Audience Award, Indiewire's Best Docs of 2014, Gotham & Cinema Eye nominee) in collaboration with Laura Dekker on Laura's journey to become the youngest person ever to sail around the world alone. Jillian produced, co-directed, and edited Hummingbirds (Berlinale 2023 Generation Grand Prix) working with director-stars Silvia Del Carmen Castaños and Estefanía "Beba" Contreras and a team of young filmmakers to craft a collaborative self-portrait of a coming-of-age summer in Laredo, Texas. In addition to filmmaking, Jillian consults, copywrites, and cuts trailers for projects at all stages from development to distribution. Freelance clients include MTV Networks, AMC Networks, The New Yorker, and The Guardian.
Space for the workshop is limited to 15 participants and requires pre-registration. The event is to help you feel confident in applying for grants. Members of DCTV are $85 and general tickets are $110 to attend.
The evening of learning can help to understand the documentary funding landscape and what funders are looking for in a proposal, matching you to funders whose objectives match your own. All you need once registered is to bring yourself.
