Alex Gibney is a New York City native. His father Frank Gibney was a journalist and scholar. Gibney has made documentaries since 1980 with industry credits including editing, producing, writing, and directing. Director Gibney's work has been nominated and won an Academy Award.
An April 23, 2010 article on Esquire Magazine online labeled Alex Gibney as "The Biographer of Bad Men." The article lead continued, "First Ken Lay, now Jack Abramoff, and soon Elliot Spitzer: this director is becoming the most important documentarian of our time."
On Saturday, September 28, 2013, Gibney's documentary Park Avenue: Money, Power and the American Dream will screen at 7:00p.m. and will include a panel discussion at the Bronx Documentary Center. The producer of the film, Blair Foster, and pastor at Park Avenue Christian, professor, author, and activist Rev. Peter Goodwin Heltzel, Ph.D. as well as local Bronx activists will lead the panel discussion.
Gibney's film exposes 740 Park Avenue as a building dense with billionaires juxtaposed to the Park Avenue that extends north to the Bronx, one of the poorest districts. The disproportion of wealth and opportunity is examined in Gibney's documentary.
