30 Rock Renamed Comcast; Adds NBC Peacocks
(released
Wednesday, July 8, 2015)
By Kimberly Burke
30 Rockefeller Plaza has been renamed the Comcast Building. Comcast NBCUniversal unveiled the new rooftop signage on July 1, 2015. The date is significant in that the first commercial broadcast that came out of WNBC, at the time it was WNBT, was from Rockefeller Center in 1941. The broadcast was of the Brooklyn Dodgers v. Phillies game and the news with Lowell Thomas out of Studio 3h.
The building, once owned by RCA, became GE and for many incarnations has headquartered NBC. Extensive renovations to update the building have been complete since 2014 and the new signage adorning the skyscraper is the peacock feather in the cap. The NBC peacock logo now is present in the skyline. Opposing directional cocks sitting on top of the building range between 11 feet and 18 feet in size.
Top of the Rock has a whole new name now. Meet you at midnight at the Top of the Cock? Anyone?
