GREEN ROOM NEW YORK
World AIDS Day Theme at Brooklyn Museum
(released
Thursday, December 1, 2016)
By Douglas Lorah
Today is World AIDS Day and in recognition of this, the Brooklyn Museum is using its Target First Saturdays (December 3) to celebrate and inform through the arts.
There will be music, dance, sketching, talks, and a couple screenings. At 7:00pm, Visual AIDS is presenting Compulsive Practice, which is a video compilation by artists and activists living with AIDS. It is followed by a talkback with Juanita Mohammed (Women's AIDS Video Enterprise), Alexandra Juhasz (Brooklyn College film department and ACT UP alum), and Justin B. Terry-Smith (HIV & gay civil rights activist). At 8:00pm, David Kornfield's film The Red Umbrella Diaries, about seven New Yorkers that work in some facet of the sex trade, will screen. Tickets are free for each screening, but in limited quantities.
The Brooklyn Museum is located at 200 Eastern Parkway. For more details about the monthly event, go to: https://www.brooklynmuseum.org/visit/first_saturdays.
