Mayor's Office Honored at Gotham Awards

The Independent Filmmaker Project announced the 26th Annual Gotham Independent Awards on Monday, November 28, 2016.
The ceremony was held at the Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Moonlight, a Barry Jenkins directed story took Best Feature, Best Screenplay, Gotham Audience Award, and a Special Jury Award for Ensemble Performance. Best Documentary went to O.J.: Made in America.
Casey Affleck and Isabelle Huppert were recognized as best actors. Affleck for Manchester by the Sea and Huppert for Elle.
Best Breakthrough Actor Award went to Anya Taylor-Joy for her work in The Witch.
Trey Edward Shults won the Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director Award. Impressing with his low budget film Krisha, this is a first feature director award. Other breakthrough awards for a debut digital series went to Crazy Ex-Girlfriend creators Aline Brosh McKenna and Rachel Bloom for long form and Her Story creators Jen Richards and Laura Zak for short form.
For the 6th year, deep euphoria Calvin Klein Spotlight on Women Filmmakers 'Live the Dream' Grant was presented to Roxy Toporowych, director of Julia Blue.
Career tributes went to Amy Adams, Ethan Hawke, Oliver Stone, and producer Arnon Milchan.
The Gotham Appreciation Award is given to recognize integral players in the independent film scene. The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment was given the award in celebration of the agency's fifty year history. Julie Menin of MOME and Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen accepted the Appreciation Award. The Mayor's office also made a special presentation to two creatives of NY, Aziz Ansari and Judith Light. Ansari and Light were presented with Made in NY awards.
