Julie Dash Headlines Queens World Film Festival

The Queens World Film Festival will open Tuesday, March 14, 2017. The opening night program includes a wine and cheese reception, Museum of Moving Image Executive Director Carl Goodman, QWFF Directors Don and Katha Cato, 2017 Spirit of Queens Honoree Julie Dash, and a sampler of films themed Old is New Again. The TBA opening party will conclude the evening.
Julie Dash, born in New York, is recognized as the first female African American to have a feature length film attain theatrical release with Daughters of the Dust in 1992. The film was later added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 2004. Dash will be presented the Spirit of Queens Award on opening night. Her film Daughters of the Dust will screen on Wednesday, March 15 at MOMI.
The festival is the 7th annual and will run through March 19, 2017. Two screening rooms at MOMI, the Redstone and Bartos Theatres will be venues as well as the Zukor screening room at Kaufman Astoria Studios.
