Film Forum Re-Opens August 1st
(released
Tuesday, July 31, 2018)
By Kimberly Burke
The Film Forum re-opens August 1, 2018. The respected film venue will celebrate 50 years in 2020. The forum started as a 50 folding chair, 16mm projector environment. Now, there will be four screens and new seats. The new seats were in response to a 4,000 person survey that had the theme, "Love the movies. Hate the seats".
Danish actress Trine Dyrholm will be present at the August 1, 8p.m. show for a Q and A. Dyrholm re-created NICO, the singer with Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground before her own musical journey, in NICO, 1988 screening on re-opening night. The 8:15p.m. show is Show People introduced by Bruce Goldstein and celebrating 35 years of piano accompanist/composer Steve Sterner's work, Sterner will be live with piano accompaniment for the silent film peppered with 1920's movie stars including Charlie Chaplin.
The theater of great respect among NY makers and audiences has been closed since May for renovations. The following link gives some insight into the nature of the film forum effect: filmforum.org/luminaries-2
