Screening of Showtime at El Barrio Firehouse
(released
Monday, September 9, 2019)
By Douglas Lorah
Filmmaker Shawn Antoine II is screening his short film Showtime at the El Barrio Firehouse in East Harlem. The screening takes place on Saturday, September 28 at 4:00pm and it will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker. This event is free and open to the public. It has previously screened at film festivals including the Hip Hop Film Festival in August.
Showtime is the story of two brothers who dance on the NYC subway trains. One brother is offered an audition for a Julliard dance team. He must decide between this life-changing opportunity and his brother.
Antoine is a former student of the University of Rhode Island and also the Nate Parker Foundation. The Nate Parker Foundation was started by its namesake Nate Parker. Parker is known as an actor and eventually director of the breakout film The Birth of a Nation. That film garnered a $17.5 million deal from Fox Searchlight Pictures at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival where it won the Audience Award and Grand Jury Prize in the US Dramatic Competition.
The Nate Parker Foundation empowers young black storytellers. They teach, provide leadership, and guide them. Their goal is to change culture through the medium of film.
The Manhattan Neighborhood Network El Barrio Firehouse Community Media Center is located at 175 East 104th Street, 10029. It is easily accessible by the 103 Street Station 4 and 6 trains.
