Still from Citizen K - Mikhail Khodorkovsky
Alex Gibney to Accompany Screening of Citizen K
(released
Sunday, January 12, 2020)
By Kimberly Burke
Greenwich Entertainment presents CITIZEN K, an official selection of the Venice Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, and the London Film Festival, screening January 17, 2020 at Film Forum. The Writer / Director / Producer of the film Academy Award winner Alex Gibney will be present to host a Q and A at the screening as well.
The 126 minute documentary film explores post-Soviet Russia from Mikhail Khodorkovsky's perspective. Khodorkovsky, a former oligarch turned political dissident, amassed a fortune in the chaos of the dissolution of the U.S.S.R. Financing and oil production made Mikhail Khodorkovsky the richest man in Russia. When he accused the Putin regime of corruption, he was arrested, had assets seized and put on trials that led to being sentenced to ten years in prison. Now living in London as an exile, he continues to speak out against the power hold Putin has maintained for two decades. Gibney uses Khodorkovsky's story to show the interplay between oligarchy and government and its effect on democracy in Russia and beyond.
Film Forum is located at 209 West Houston Street. The screening will take place at 5:30p.m. and conclude at 8:30p.m. Register to attend here: www.eventbrite.com
