Free Screening of Julio from Jackson Heights (released Tuesday, June 9, 2020) By Kimberly Burke Director Richard Shpuntoff’s film "Julio from Jackson Heights" will screen complimentary on June 16, 2020 at 5PM. The 93 minute feature film is a portrait of 1950's-80's LGBTQ life in Queens, NY. Julio Rivera, a Bronx-born Puerto Rican sex worker was murdered in Jackson Heights on July 2, 1990. The film reconstructs Julio's family and friends process to build a coalition for equality. Filmmaker Richard Shpuntoff was born and raised in Jackson Heights and Elmhurst. Shpuntoff served as the photographer for the Pride parade for its first 20 years.
