Bushwick Film Festival Offers Broad Lineup Oct 2-5

(released 10/2/2014)

Bushwick Film Festival 2014 will be October 2-5, 2014. The 7th annual festival has grown right along with the community of Bushwick, Brooklyn.

The festival's goal is to bridge film to the community. "Media Literacy for Local Residents and Small Business owners" is one example of programming outreach.  Providing the space for artists to create their stories is another.

The Bushwick Film Festival (BFF) encourages charitable deeds through cinema annually by awarding an organization or individual that applies film or technology as a way to positively impact their community. This year's recipient Kriterion Monrovia's "Together We Can Stop Ebola" Campaign will receive a portion of the proceeds to further her efforts.

This year, the weekend festival entails several highlights.  Films from international makers who have all found a way to overcome obstacles in their filmmaking process are the bulk of the slate. Workshops on hand painted film or how to crowdfund to build independence will be held. Panels will include Women in Film and TV as well as the Tribeca Institute providing industry relevant discussion to attendees.

If you're a fan of the TED Talks format, you may enjoy Bushwick's version called Cinema Talks. Festival founder Kweighbaye Kotee made a conscious effort to represent the growing Latin community in Bushwick when making selections of films. While in Berlin festivaling, the feature "Los Angeles" stood out to Kotee and has been selected to screen at this year's BFF.
