2016 New York Television Festival Events Announced

The New York Television Festival is Monday, October 24 through Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Manhattan. The festival has a hearty lineup of independent television with offerings for the public, exclusive passholders, and the more than 250 official artists invited to the annual festival.

Public events include Seeso Presents "The Politics of Funny" featuring comedians Janeane Garafalo and Jena Friedman. Sundance TV presents RECTIFY: The Final Season premiere of season four and a talk back with creator Ray McKinnon and Bloomberg News' David Westin. truTV will present a Night of Unbridled Comedy featuring Jon Glaser of Jon Glaser Loves Gear and Rachel Dratch with a preview of season two of Rachel Dratch's Late Night Snack.  TNT will screen a first look at Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery's new show Good Behavior followed by a panel with show creators Chad Hodges and Blake Crouch and network representative Sarah Aubrey. POP will bring Ali Wentworth's soon-to-premiere, satirical scripted comedy series NIGHTCAP. Lena Dunham and executive producer Jenni Konner and HBO President of Programming Kathleen McCaffrey will share in a Q&A about Girls with Slate's Willa Paskin. MTV will present The Struggle is Real: Gender, Race Entrepreneurship and the Women of MTV featuring Nicole Byer and other creators, writers, and stars of Loosely, Exactly Nicole, Mary + Jane, and Sweet/Vicious.

Exclusive passholders and Official Artists will hear from keynote speaker Evan Shapiro from NBC Universal, How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, and Arrested Development's Mitchell Hurwitz in a Q&A session. Networking opportunities and panel discussions round out the experience throughout the week.

"The independent television movement continues to thrive as we prepare for our 12th annual Festival, at which we are proud to present a line-up that includes some of TV's boldest, most original episodic storytellers," said NYTVF Founder Terence Gray. "At its core, the NYTVF is rooted in the celebration of creators - whether they are established or just beginning their careers - and creating an environment that fosters talent development and relationship-building. We are humbled and thrilled to share our full programming slate with the indie producers, aspiring artists, industry decision-makers, and TV fans that spend a week with us each October."

Official Artists will be screening and competing in the Independent Pilot Competition, NYTVF Scripts initiative and winning development deals with NYTVF development partners. Mid-week for official artists, the focus shifts to NYTVF Connect at Tribeca Three Sixty where these content creators are engaged in meetings with decision makers from studios, networks, production companies, agencies and platforms.

The festival released the following list of official artists that are currently recognizable and creating new content. Steve Dildarian (The Life and Times of Tim), Keith Powell (30 Rock), and Liz Astrof (2 Broke Girls, King of Queens, Last Man Standing) and starring/featuring the talents of Kate Flannery (The Office), Horatio Sanz (Saturday Night Live), Amber Nash (Archer), Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory), Beth Grant (The Mindy Project), Paul F. Tompkins (BoJack Horseman), Malcolm Barrett (Better Off Ted), Matt Dallas (Kyle XY), Antoine McKay (Empire), Kristian Bruun (Orphan Black), Jill Eikenberry and Michael Tucker (L.A. Law), Lindsey Kraft (Getting On), Sam Richardson (Veep), Mircea Monroe (Hart of Dixie), Brian George (Seinfeld), Ian Roberts (writer/creator - The UCB Show, writer - Key and Peele, actor - Arrested Development), Claire Mulaney (writer - Saturday Night Live), Katie Rich (writer - Saturday Night Live), Todd Aronauer (producer - Supernatural), Graham Wagner (producer - Baskets, Portlandia), John Levenstein (Portlandia, Kroll Show, producer - Silicon Valley), Tracey Wigfield (writer - 30 Rock, Co-EP - The Mindy Project) and Mike O'Brien (Saturday Night Live, "7 Minutes in Heaven"), among others.


If you are aspiring or just emerging in the business, the NYTVF Development Day is for you. This year, Development Day will include a conversation with creators of HBO's Animals - Mike Luciano and Phil Matarese who are alumni of NYTVF 2013. The creators will discuss the journey from the festival in 2013 to now, which is post-production of season two for HBO.
