The 18th annual Black Panther Party Film Festival takes place September 24 through October 3 at the Maysles Documentary Center in Harlem.
The festival opens with Free Joan Little on Thursday the 24th at 7pm. This short tells the story of a 1975 legal case in which the first woman in US history is acquitted for using deadly force to resist sexual assault. The film from Director Yoruba Richen runs 36 minutes. It will be followed by Black Panther Party shorts.
