World Channel Releases Films Honoring AAPI Month

(released 5/20/2021)

World Channel just released a few documentary films for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (aka May). They are part of their America ReFramed series now in its 9th season. World Channel is a documentary channel grown from GBH, the Boston PBS station that creates a large amount of their programming nationwide.

Three of the films are "Far East Deep South", "Curtain Up!", and "Hamtramck, USA".

Far East Deep South is about a Chinese American family that traces its roots back to the 1800s. Curtain Up! is about students in the theatre club at PS 124 in Chinatown in New York City. Hamtramck, USA chronicles election season in America's first Muslim majority city.

Curtain Up! was created by filmmakers Hui Tong and Kelly Ng. This was Tong's first feature documentary. He is currently in Beijing, but has called New York home as he was a student at Columbia J School.

World Channel held a Zoom Q&A with filmmakers from all three films including the trailers. Check it out on their YouTube page.

You can see all of these documentaries on the World Channel website.  Here is the link for Curtain Up!
