The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment announced the third round of funding presented to ethically diverse New Yorkers led by women. The first round went out in 2019 to 63 recipients. In 2020, 94 received the second round of funds. This initiative is intended to address the underrepresentation of women in film, digital media, music and theatre. The funds are administered by New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). In 2022, this fund will have recognized 89 female-identifying led creatives that will receive finishing grants.
In a release from the Mayor's Office, New York City Mayor Eric Adams: "As Women's History Month comes to a close, I can't think of a more fitting opportunity to honor these powerhouses than provide city funding for their creative projects. This administration is committed to supporting women-led initiatives, and we are proud to distribute this funding in hopes of transforming the film, television, and theatre industry to a more equitable environment for artists."
