DCTV's Firehouse Opens With Abigail Disney Film

Firehouse, DCTV's Cinema For Documentary Film, is re-opening beginning Friday, September 23, 2022. A week long run of new releases, one night only events and special guest events with filmmakers at many of the programmed screenings will be a welcome back to business.

Directors Abigail Disney and Kathleen Hughes will be present for several of their personal essay documentary The American Dream and Other Fairy Tales screenings starting this Friday, September 23rd and running through the 29th.  The film is produced by the duo along with Aideen Kane.

In the film, you will see Disney question how the "Happiest Place on Earth" that bears her name could have employees experiencing hunger. Abigail learns how racism, corporate power and the American Dream are intwined. When wealth in America was shared equitably in comparison to today, the story filmed over a two year period, explores what happened and what path can we take to a fairer future.

The film employs archive, animation, and Disney family movies. The film is inside the boardroom and the union hall.

The American Dream and Other Fairy Tales will screen Friday, September 23 starting at 3p.m. with several additional screenings into the evening. Open captioning will be available at the 5p.m. screening. Disney and Hughes will be at the 7p.m.
