Want to understand the Civil Rights Movement on another level? Then this free community screening Portraits of Women Leaders is for you. The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture located at 515 Malcom X Boulevard will be where you want to go on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 1pm-9pm.  This event is put on by the New York African Diaspora International Film Festival which runs November 25 through December 11.

The following films will screen:

SHE HAD A DREAM by Raja Amari
Ghofrane, a young black Tunisian woman and victim of racial discrimination, decides to go into politics.

THE DAPHNE PROJECT by Zora Iman Crews
Daphne Wilco, actress and SJW, wreaks havoc on a staged production of Euripides' The Bacchae. The screening will be followed by a Q&A.

THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE: THE LEGACY OF FANNIE HAMER by Robin Hamilton
A poor sharecropper challenges the political elite to become the voice for millions fighting for the right to vote.

FUNDI: THE STORY OF ELLA BAKER by Joanne Grant
FUNDI: The Story of Ella Baker reveals the instrumental role that Ella Baker, a friend and advisor to Martin Luther King, played in shaping the American civil rights movement. The dynamic activist was affectionately known as the Fundi, a Swahili word for a person who passes skills from one generation to another. By looking at the 1960s from the perspective of Baker, the "godmother of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee," FUNDI adds an essential understanding of the U.S. civil rights movement.

A panel discussion is also planned for this day.  Reserve your free spot here: www.eventbrite.com
