The 13th Annual Lower East Side Film Festival will run May 4 - 8, 2023. The festival has programmed diverse films, panels and parties happening over 5 days in NYC's Lower East Side, celebrating independent filmmaking and the counterculture spirit of this iconic neighborhood.
Opening Night May 4, "Big Apple, Short Films: NY Filmmaker Shorts" will screen at Village East Cinema from 6:30pm - 8pm. Also at Village East Cinema, Opening Night Film: Molli and Max in the Future, screens at 8:30pm - 10pm. The Opening Night Party will be at 10pm at Bowery Electric with an open bar and live music.
On Friday, May 5, the festival will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Dazed and Confused. Live commentary will be given by Phoebe Robinson, Jordan Carlos and Donwill. The 1993 Richard Linklater film will include a virtual introduction from Richard himself.
Look at the full schedule for world premiere documentary films, Family Ties Shorts, Love Bites shorts, Mind F*ck Shorts and BUDDIES! shorts. There will be a LIVE CONVERSATION: How True is Your Doc? Exploring the fallacies behind the facts 2:30 - 3:30pm at DCTV on May 6th.
The Closing night film will be from HBO Documentary Films and will be the NY Premiere of GREAT PHOTO, LOVELY LIFE. The film follows photojournalist Amanda Mustard who returns home to Pennsylvania to investigate the sexual abuse crimes committed by her grandfather. Through interviews, photographs and home movies, this eight year cinematic journey shows a granddaughter trying to break the intergenerational trauma through the voices of the survivors and her grandfather himself. Filmmakers will be in attendance for a Q&A to follow the screening.
