The Rockaway Film Festival is happening August 19th - 27th at Arverne Cinema. Films will screen and many may include a live musical performance, dj, dance or even a ventriloquist performance.
Food vendors YARDIES Aug 19-21, BROOKLYN CURRY PROJECT Aug 22-24 and BROTHERS Aug 25-27 will be available. Tickets to all screenings and events are available with the SHELL PASS for $75. Individual event tickets are also an option.
Opening night, Saturday, August 19th at 7p.m. will be FANTASIA + FISCHINGER. The evening will start with a 7pm performance by Rockaway Chamber Music. Tchaikovsky's "Souvenir de Florence" performed by Adda Kridler, Alex Shiozaki, Will Hakim, Jocelin Pan, Emily Brausa, and Michael Haas. Then at 8:00PM:
FANTASIA + FISCHINGER
Rhapsodies of visual music by cine-magician Oskar Fischinger, whose groundbreaking animations changed the cinematic frontier. His early Study No. 8 was one of his films that led to the concept of Disney's Fantasia and was among his films screened for the animation staff to teach them how to animate abstract images to classical music. Before we show Disney's famous feature masterpiece, we present one of Fischinger's later plays of light and sound, Motion Painting no 1, with a special live performance of the original Bach score by Rockaway Chamber Music.
