Dog Thief was developed at the Cannes Cinefondation Residency and the Venice Biennale College Cinema program. Set in the Bolivian capital of La Paz, the film Dog Thief centers on a young 13 year old teenager Martin, a shoeshine boy working on the streets of the city. Martin is an orphan and although he has a room in a large old house courtesy of his late mother's close friend, he has few friends and fewer avenues to support himself. Hope does exist though in his best client Mr. Novoa, a lonely tailer whose sole friend is Astor, a German Shepard he cares for like a son. Initially motivated by a possible reward, Martin steals Astor. As Martin and Mr. Novoa spend more time together, a bond that neither one of them expected develops.
The film features performances from Frank Aro and Alfredo Castro where interpersonal dynamics slowly turn up the tension of each character. The film's Director/Screenwriter is Vinko Tomicic. The film was shot by Cinematographer Sergio Armstrong. The feature film is in Spanish with English subtitles.
The film will be screening Thursday, June 13th as part of the Tribeca Festival at AMC 19th St. East 6 at 8pm. To purchase your seat, follow through to this link:
