Saturday Night Live will have its season premiere September 28th and this is season 50. The show has added new talent this fall and the three featured players are Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim and Jane Wickline.  Ashley has been a member of the LA Groundlings Main Company since 2021. Emil is a Lebanese-American stand-up comic, actor, writer. Jane is a sketch performer familiar to those who watch Tik Tok live "Stapleview" comedy show.

Season 49 cast members Chloe Troast, Molly Kearney and Punkie Johnson are not returning for season 50. Marcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow and Devon Walker have been promoted to Repertory Player status. Season 49 of the show was the #1 entertainment series across broadcast and cable in the 18-49 demographic.

The show was nominated in this year's 2024 EMMYs and took home six awards.

On October 11, 1975, the new late-night comedy show premiered on NBC. The show was originally titled NBC's Saturday Night, because there was already a sports show titled Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell. The show would switch the name to what we know now in 1977. The first episode was hosted by George Carlin and the cast known then as the Not Ready for Prime Time Players: included Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin, John Belushi, and Laraine Newman.

The show will have a 50th Anniversary special in February 2025 with a weekend long look back at the late-night sketch show, culminating in a three-hour live primetime special that will air on Sunday, February 16 from 8-11p.m. ET on NBC.
