Robert De Niro is being honored with the Friars Club Entertainment Icon Award on October 7, 2014 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Self-made businessman billionaire Carlos Slim will be honored the same evening with the Friars Foundation Icon Award for Philanthropy. De Niro is the 5th to receive the Icon Award in the Friars Club's 110 year history. Douglas Fairbanks, Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, and Tom Cruise precede De Niro in the honor. Both De Niro and Slim will be receiving the Friar's highest recognition.

Dinner Chair Harvey Weinstein has gathered a host of actors, artists, and athletes to pay tribute and honor De Niro and Slim. "Blythe Danner, Jimmy Fallon, Kevin Hart, Harvey Keitel, Ed Norton, Ben Stiller, David O. Russell, and Harvey Weinstein, among others, are scheduled to come to the Friars Foundation Gala." per Friars Club social media.

The Friars Club was founded in 1904. The Friars Foundation was created in 1977. Setting out to help small performing arts groups, the foundation's goal is to educate and enrich a diverse participant and audience base. Its efforts go to prepare the next generation of performing and musical artists by providing scholorships for study in the performing arts. The Icon Award Gala will raise funds to foster this vision.
