The 4th annual Montclair Film Festival runs May 1-10. In July of 2014, a new festival director took over the helm. Tom Hall, a native of Brooklyn, is this person. He is the former director of the Sarasota Film Festival in Florida.
Some new things in place this year include filmmaking awards, competitions, and audience awards as well as expected yearlong community outreach. Awards of note, The David Carr Award for Truth in Non-Fiction Filmmaking and The Sinofsky Prize, honor current filmmakers as well as past Montclair residents.
The fest opens up with Hello, My Name is Doris, which stars Sally Field. The director Michael Showalter will be present to answer questions after the film.
More than just film screenings, this festival boasts a strong schedule of appearances by named actors and filmmakers. Here's a look:
May 2: Richard Gere, Stephen Colbert, Pete Chatmon, Lacey Schwartz May 3: Patrick Wilson, Barbara Kopple, Michael Ian Black, Bobcat Goldthwait May 4: John Battsek May 6: Barbara Rosenblat May 9: Abigail Disney, Jonathan Demme
