They already announced that Todd Haynes is going to receive the Director Tribute and now the IFP has announced who will receive the Actor, Actress, and Industry Tributes at this year's Gotham Awards. The Gothams mark the beginning of awards season and celebrate the best in independent film.
This year, IFP is celebrating the work of actor Robert Redford, actress Helen Mirren, and producer Steve Golin.
Robert Redford got his start acting in New York on stage, but made his mark on film. His credentials are lengthy and include films such as Barefoot in the Park, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, The Way We Were, Three Days of the Condor, All The President's Men, Out of Africa, The Natural, Downhill Racer, and The Candidate. He can currently be seen on screen along with Nick Nolte in A Walk in the Woods. That will be followed by Truth, the Dan Rather scandal pic, which is initially being released October 16 in LA and New York. Redford was honored this past April with the Charlie Chaplin Award by the Film Society at Lincoln Center (pictured above).
Helen Mirren's career also started in theatre and this past spring, she made a splash on stage in the city playing Queen Elizabeth II in The Audience. In film, she is known for her work in The Long Good Friday, Excalibur, The Mosquito Coast, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park, The Madness of King George, and The Queen. She will be seen on screen in Bleecker Street's Trumbo, which is scheduled to release November 6.
Steve Golin has been producing since the heyday of MTV in the 80's. His credits include Wild At Heart, Babel, Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Truth or Dare, and Winter's Bone. His upcoming releases include The Revenant, Triple 9, and The Meddler.
The nominations for the competitive Gotham Awards will be announced on October 22. The awards ceremony takes place November 30. More information is available at http://gotham.ifp.org.
