Once every five years since 2000, MoMA PS1 holds a long term art exhibit at their space in Long Island City that celebrates the artists of the city. This is one of those years and the exhibit is called Greater New York.
This iteration started in October 2015 and runs through March 2016. The film program started on January 3 and ends March 7.
One of the exhibits features the restored documentary of filmmaker Diego Echeverria's 1984 Los Sures. Union Docs of Williamsburg acquired the last known print of Los Sures and scanned it into a digital format. It was then shaped into another project called Living Los Sures. This version includes resident stories updating the viewer on the past 30 years with the feature 89 Steps and the remixed Shot by Shot. The Greater New York exhibit also screens 5 other shorts inspired by the original documentary called Southside Short Docs. The Los Sures film program runs January 17-23.
MoMA PS1 is located at 22-25 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City. For more info, check out www.momaps1.org.
