Tribeca FF includes Taxi Driver Anniversary

The Tribeca Film Festival will be held April 13-24, 2016. The programmers of the fesival reviewed 6,739 submissions that resulted in 101 films, 40 talks, 72 shorts and 23 VR +Interactive Installations. Taxi Driver will celebrate 40 years. An evening in conversation with members of the cast including Robert De Niro and Jodie Foster is on the schedule to commemorate. Shaq will attend 30 for 30: This Magic Moment chronicling the mid-nineties NBA franchise. Eddie Murphy will play a talented cook who is hired by a dying mother to care for her daughter in Mr. Church directed by Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy). The Phenom is a film starring Johnny Simmons as a baseball pitcher who is sidelined to the minor leagues. Paul Giamatti plays a psychologist who brings to the surface a dormant conflict with the player's overbearing father played by Ethan Hawke. The film explores the machine of big league sports. Nerdland is a rated R cartoon voiced by Paul Rudd and Patton Oswalt that will feature comedy cameos by Hannibal Buress, Laraine Newman, Mike Judge, and Molly Shannon. Look for comedy, horror, and action in the Midnight Movie offerings picked with late night audiences in mind.
Tribeca Tune In will be insight into TV with sneak peek previews of Frankie and Grace, the Broad City Season 3 finale, and The Good Wife: a Farewell. Conversations with the creators and stars of Catastrophe, Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney and another conversation is scheduled with Samantha Bee talking about her new TBS show Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. A movie about television For the Love of Spock will screen and a conversation with Director Adam Nimoy and actor Zachary Quinto will be held Monday, April 18th. Cast and creators of the historical film Roots will be at the festival this year in conversation about the legacy of the series.
Daring Women Summit will beheld April 20 celebrating women in the tech and entertainment industry who are at the top. Speakers include Producer/Actress Olivia Wilde, Fashion Icon Donna Karan, Actress / Author Rosie Perez, HelloGiggle's Sophia Rossi, Showrunner Nahnatchka Khan and more. Tribeca Talks will include a Director series: J.J. Abrams, Chris Rock, Joss Whedon, Mark Ruffalo, and Jodie Foster. StoryTellers Talks include Tom Hanks, Tina Fey, Patti Smith, and Francis Ford Coppola. Look for David Bryne, Katie Couric, Michael Douglas, Anthony Bourdain, and Ricky Gervais to follow up films with in-person conversations. Master classes this festival include: Inside Casting, Dolby Master class, and Prepping to Shoot. The community based tradition of Tribeca returns with Street Fair and Sports Day, both interactive family friendly outdoor days that are free to enjoy.
