The 13th annual Animation Block Party starts Thursday and runs through the weekend. The Thursday schedule is hosted by Rooftop Films at Waterfront Plaza in the Financial District. The remainder of the events will be held at BAMcinematek in downtown Brooklyn.
Thursday's event is free. Doors open at 6pm. There will be live music by Sam Evian at 7:30pm with the films screening at 8:30pm followed by a filmmaker Q&A at 10pm.
There will be a panel discussion accompanying an animation block on Friday about old and new animations that have been used for advertising that were created in New York City. That's at 2pm and the panelists will be Howard Beckerman, Emily Hubley, Doug Crane, and Joe Burrascano.
Also Friday afternoon is a block that includes local shorts. Feature films include The Transformers (1986) on Friday at 9pm and Cowboy Bebop (2001) on Saturday at 9pm.
This animation festival that pre-dates YouTube and Vimeo will screen over 100 animations this year. Check out the entire schedule on their site: www.animationblock.com.
