10th Annual KAFFNY Third Culture Cinema This Week

(released 10/17/2016)

The Korean American Film Festival New York is running October 15-22, 2016 and now at 10 years old is evolving into KAFFNY THIRD CULTURE CINEMA. Made in NY Media Center by IFP and Wythe Hotel Cinema will be the festival venues. In order to remove colonial divisions of the past, the festival sets to highlight third cultured kids. What is a third cultured kid? "Humans, of any national origins, raised with the tension of two or more cultures." says festival founder Dave Kim.

The Best Third Culture Feature and Best Third Culture Short will be named with the judging criteria being the "contributions to the creation of third culture".  Creating culture outside of national or political identification is the topic of the panel being held October 21, 2016 at the Wythe in Williamsburg. The open-to-all dialogue will be live as well as streamed through Twitter/Periscope, Facebook, and YouTube services.

Making its world premiere tonight is Simbi Zombies, which was written and directed by the festival director himself.  This movie also has two lives.  It is being produced in a traditional format as well as 360 virtual reality, which will come out later.  This screening is the flat version and is free to attend.  You can RSVP through Eventbrite.  This event is 6:30-8:30 at the IFP Made in New York Media Center in DUMBO.
