Governor Andrew Cuomo and Warner Bros. Pictures have announced Ocean's 8 has begun filming in New York City. The female cast includes: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blancett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter.
Warner Bros Pictures will be distributing the film worldwide with a summer 2018 release planned. Steven Soderbergh is producing along with Michael Tadross, Susan Ekins, Sandra Bullock, Diana Alvarez, and Brice Berman executive producing. Co-producing will be Olivia Milch. Gary Ross will direct Ocean's 8, a screenplay he wrote with co-producer Olivia Milch.
New York State Film Incentive does factor when productions decide where to shoot a film. The film according to the Governor's office is expected to create 250 jobs and cast 2,200 extras. Built in 1883 and located in Willamsburg Brooklyn, the National Guard Armory, The Marcy Armory will be the production's home as they work throughout the state.
Michael Walbrecht, Vice President, Public Affairs, Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., said, "New York is an incredible state for filming, both visually and logistically. We have set our story in and around New York City and we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else to capture the look and feel of such a distinctive city."
