The inaugural Split Screen Festival opened June 2nd and continues through the 8th. It is a TV festival running at the IFC Center in the West Village. It is run by the same team that puts on DOC NYC led by Executive Director Raphaela Neihausen and Creative Director Matt Zoller Seitz.
Considering that they just started, it is quite ambitious and already has major industry support. The festival opened with producer and actress Maggie Gyllenhaal and pilot director Michelle MacLaren as they introed the pilot of HBO's The Deuce.
The second day followed up with a discussion with Golden Globe winner Rami Malek about his role in USA's Mr. Robot. They have also had appearances by Michael McKean promoting Better Call Saul and Margo Martindale promoting Sneaky Pete.
At the midpoint of the festival on Monday, it was award day. The Legacy Award was presented by Marlo Thomas to Lee Grant. That was followed by Steve Buscemi presenting The Vanguard Award to The Sopranos creator and EP David Chase.
The festival continues with the following shows including talent, directors, and producers representing them: Orphan Black (BBC America), Billions (Showtime), The Girlfriend Experience (Starz), Brockmire (IFC), Underground (WGN America), Hannibal (NBC).
