NYC Leading Broadcast Drama Pilots This Season

Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment Commissioner Julie Menin announced today that New York will see 12 broadcast drama pilots in production this season. That is up from last year when 7 pilots were made in the Big Apple.
Menin who advocates on behalf of New York City is familiar with the scope of talent, facilities, and locations available for such work to be accomplished. Commissioner Menin is enthusiastic that this bodes well for New York based crew and actors.
The Mayor himself is spirited about the announcement from Menin's office. "New York City continues to light up the small screen in homes all across America," said Mayor Bill de Blasio. "It's great to see production activity spreading out throughout the five boroughs and with it, good-paying jobs for more New Yorkers."
New York's largest competitor for production is Los Angeles with 8 pilots this season. The increase in New York production to 12 is also the largest increase of any city in the United States. Total production of broadcast drama pilots industry wide is 43; up from 38 last year.

FBI is from producer Dick Wolf and has been ordered straight to series. This is the first time Wolf, the creator of LAW AND ORDER and CHICAGO franchise, has filmed a pilot in New York since 1999, when LAW AND ORDER SVU debuted.

Dr. Eric Manheimer, MD is a series producer on BELLEVUE and his book TWELVE PATIENTS: LIFE AND DEATH AT BELLEVUE HOSPITAL is the inspiration for the series. The book is a memoir of Dr. Manheimer's time as medical director for Bellevue Hospital.
ABC brings production dollars to New York with 3 pilots shooting in the five boroughs:

THE ROOKIE is also slated straight to series with lead actor Nathan Fillion playing John Nolan, a forty year old who leaves his small town life to pursue his dream of being a police officer. The character John Nolan moves to Los Angeles to become the oldest rookie on LAPD.

Comedy Central - ALTERNATINO
COMPLIANCE's focus is Wall Street, THE DEMONS OF DORIAN GUNN will be produced by Jax Media and Arturo Castro's web series on Comedy Central's website ALTERNATINO is getting a pilot for possible broadcast.

"Clearly, the New York story continues to inspire storytelling, creativity and the imaginations of people around the world."
The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment in addition to key economic and creative sectors of film, TV, theater, music, advertising, publishing, digital content and real estate as it relates to the industry, oversees NYC MEDIA. FIVE TV channels, an FM radio channel and boast the largest municipal broadcasting entity of 18 million viewers in the greater metropolitan area known as NYC MEDIA.
