Jim McKay may come to mind as a director of television. McKay made 4 feature films before television directing that were on retrospective at the IFC Center earlier in the week and his latest film will come out Friday, June 8, 2018.
What are Mckay's films about? Humanity. Jim McKay is a story teller who observes his landscape of New York and plucks out the characters, neighborhoods that become characters and goes below surface interactions to honest experiences that play how they may, not necessarily the happy ending. Independent in spirit, McKay has been able to adapt from being an independent filmmaker, involved in aspects such as auditions to musical scoring when thinking out his budgets, to being given his characters and managing the tools the production provides in a television studio/network environment.
Jim McKay's new feature film EN EL SEPTIMO DIA is in Spanish with English subtitles. It follows a bicycle delivery driver/service industry worker through his routine and associations. Faced with the Sunday soccer game that will be a large victory for those in his circles who help each other get through life versus his employers need for his work on the same day, a choice of job or relationships appears.
Given the texture of McKay's previous films OUR SONG and ANGEL RODRIGUEZ, the anticipation of deep diving into a cultural experience living in New York City is probable.
McKay and cast from the film will be present at the 7:15 p.m. screenings on Friday and Saturday, June 7 & 8. Get all the details and additional screening times here:
