The Queens World Film Festival is coming to shine light on the human experience through the medium of film. The festival, planted in the borough of Queens, is the 9th annual collection of films from around the globe. "If you want to screen in Manhattan, you have to land in Queens" said Katha Cato, the Executive Director of the festival. The Queens World Festival philosophy is Films First. Don Cato, the Artistic Director, has curated a program of blocks that will screen at the Museum of Moving Image in theRedstone Theatre and Bartos Screening Room, as well as the Zukor Theatre at Kaufman Astoria Studios.
The opening night block of films include a film that was banned in Iran, and other films whose makers could not travel to attend this year's festival due to current political climates in their given lands of origin. Here is a look at the festival's selection team www.queensworldfilmfestival.com
The festival kicked off the Friday night at Artefix in Woodside with a pot luck party for the filmmakers, casts, crew and public to attend. The room was filled with a sense of community, gratitude for the leaders of the festival, and pride for a festival that has grown to represent the diverse community that is Queens and the globe we share. The screenings begin March 21 and run through March 31, 2019.
