William S. Paley created what became CBS. His gut instinct for what an audience would respond to shaped the programming and drove the quality of the broadcasts. The Paley Center is named after this historical leader of broadcasting. Paley founded an organization in 1975 to collect, preserve and interpret television and radio programming, and to make them accessible to the public. Paley served as the first chairman of the organization. The Museum of Broadcasting opened in 1976. Today, it is named the Paley Center for Media to reflect the evolution of the institution that "illuminates the immense and growing impact of media on our lives, culture and society."
The Paley Center for Media New York is located at 25 West 52 Street, NY 10019.
