Awkwafina AKA Nora Lum is one of the executive producers of a half-hour scripted comedy, loosely based on her rearing in Flushing, Queens. Awkwafina will lead the series: Awkwafina is Nora From Queens. Nora was raised by her Dad (BD Wong) and Grandma (Lori Tan Chinn). Nora leans on family as she learns to navigate life, young adulthood, in outer borough-NYC.
Diverse directors will be used throughout the ten episode series: Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll), Lucia Aniello (Broad City), Jamie Babbit (But I'm a Cheerleader), The Daniels (Swiss Army Man), Steven Tsuchida (Younger), and Anu Valia (The Other Two). The series is currently in production in New York and is slated for a January 2020 premiere on Comedy Central.
In addition to Awkwafina (Nora Lum) executive producing, Karey Dornetto, Lucia Aniello, Teresa Hsioa, Peter Principato and Itay Reiss of Artists First, are also titled executive producers. Sarah Babineau and Rachel Olson are Executives in Charge of Production for Comedy Central.
