2020 Chaplin Award Will Honor Spike Lee

(released 11/18/2019)

Film at Lincoln Center has announced that Spike Lee will be presented with the next Charlie Chaplin Award.  Spike will be honored at a fundraising gala on Monday, April 27, 2020.  This is the 46th Chaplin Award which has honored some of the industry's biggest names like Hitchcock, Chaplin, Olivier, Scorsese, Streep, Hanks, Poitier, Streisand, Redford, and De Niro.

This is Film at Lincoln Center's biggest fundraising event each year.  Seats at the gala will become available at a later date.

Spike Lee's career spans 4 decades and some of his more notable work includes the most recent Academy Award winning film BlacKkKlansman as well as She's Gotta Have It, School Daze, Do the Right Thing, Mo' Better Blues, Jungle Fever, Malcolm X, Crooklyn, Clockers, He Got Game, Summer of Sam, Inside Man, and Miracle at St. Anna.

Spike not only makes movies, but he has been teaching filmmaking at NYU for 15 years.  His students weren't even born when he was gracing TV's in the late 80's with Michael Jordan slinging Air Jordans.

Just this week, it was also announced that Spike will direct Prince of Cats, a hip-hop retelling of Romeo and Juliet that takes place in Da Republic of Brooklyn.  It's gotta be the shoes.
