2019 Gotham Award Winners Announced

The IFP Gotham Awards were held Monday, December 2nd at Cipriani Wall Street in Lower Manhattan.  For some time now, this has been considered the beginning of awards season for the film industry.

The big winner this year was Noah Baumbach's Marriage Story.  It took home 4 awards including Best Feature.

In addition to the previously scheduled awards, a few more announcements were made.  The "Made in NY" Award was presented by Film Commissioner Anne del Castillo to filmmaker and disability rights activist Jason DaSilva.  Alfre Woodard announced IFP's inaugural "Impact Storytelling Salute" to Rockefeller Foundation for their Solvable campaign.  And Julia Stiles announced IFP's new Student Short Film Showcase sponsored by JetBlue and Focus Features.  Together, they will spotlight five thesis films from New York City area film schools, which includes distribution through JetBlue's inflight entertainment system and a theatrical screening and digital distribution through Focus Features.

The winning student films and filmmakers highlighted during the ceremony were Bob and Dale, David Melvin Rosfeld (CUNY Feirstein); Darling, Saim Sadiq (Columbia University); Keeper of Earth and Time, Tiantian Wang (SVA); Mizaru, Sudarshan Suresh (Columbia University); and Youth, Farida Zahran (NYU).

Best Actor - Adam Driver in Marriage Story
Best Actress - Awkwafina in The Farewell
Best Screenplay - Marriage Story by Noah Baumbach
Breakthrough Actor - Taylor Russell in Waves
Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director - Laura De Clermont-Tonnerre for The Mustang
Breakthrough Series Long Format - When They See Us
Breakthrough Series Short Format - PEN15
