The first Artists & Beers of 2020 took place on Thursday, January 9th at the Stone Creek Bar & Lounge in Manhattan. This was also my first time at an Artists & Beers. The screenings take place in the back room, which was filled with around 40-50 people, mostly actors and filmmakers.
Artists & Beers is run by Chip Parham and has been over the past four years. It currently resides in 2 homes, Stone Creek Bar and Queens Brewery.
The format of the night is as follows. Short film is screened followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker and repeat the process a few times. Chip handles the Q&A and he was well prepared with unique questions about each film. The audience also has an opportunity to ask questions as Chip opened questions to the room.
January 9th's films were If The Shoe Fits by Cinder Chou and Brittany Prater, My Identity by Yasmin Mistry, Settling Up by Reuben Hernandez and Brady Walker, Love Seat by Grace Kim, and To New Beginnings by Rodrigo Baumgartner Ayers and Nicholas VanderBorgh.
The next Artists & Beers takes place on Wednesday, February 12 at Queens Brewery located at 1539 Covert Street in Ridgewood. There is no cover charge. If you are interested in submitting a short film for inclusion at a future Artists & Beers, look up Chip Parham on Facebook and send him a message.
