Film & TV Production is Really Happening in NYC

(released 10/27/2020)

Film and TV production disappeared like almost every other industry with the onset of the COVID-19 virus outbreak. As of July 27th, New York City entered Phase 4 of reopening, which meant media production activity could commence.

It was very limited and still is, when compared to spring or previous years' activity. Recently though, there has been an uptick in production. The brightly colored signs famous, or infamous to some, declaring a film shoot and NO PARKING have started to be seen.

Run the World was shooting on the upper west side of Manhattan on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at The Milling Room. The show is BET's Boomerang staff writer Leigh Davenport's project and she will serve as executive producer. Starz network has ordered eight episodes and is scheduled to release for television in 2021.  Producing is Yvette Lee Bowser, known for A Different World, Living Single, black-ish, and Dear White People. Directing is Millicent Shelton (black-ish).

Run the World is the story of loyal, best friends living in Harlem. The four women in the show strive and thrive in their current situations, living in New York City.  The four leads are Amber Stevens West (The Carmichael Show), Andrea Bordeaux (NCIS: Los Angeles), Bresha Webb (Marlon), and Corbin Reid (Valor).

CBS' Blue Bloods, started shooting their 11th season on October 5th and are running out of Broadway Stages. Writer and Producer Siobhan Byrne O'Conner posted from set on their first day.

Law & Order: SVU has been seen working out of their usual haunt, Silver Screen Studios at Chelsea Piers.

A period piece being shot by Universal TV and picked up by HBO, The Gilded Age, is being shot in the city. The show is about the same named time period of American history. The show is created by Julian Fellowes, who also created Downton Abbey. A few actors on board are Cynthia Nixon, Christine Baranski, Carrie Coon, and also named for recurring appearances is Jeanne Tripplehorn.
