2 Lizards is a film by artists Meriem Bennani and Orian Barki. Bennani hails from Rabat, Morocco and Barki, from Isreal. Now both live in New York. The filmmakers use animated anthropomorphized lizards to tell the story of the COVID in the City experience. The eight episodes of shorts was originally posted to Bennani's Instagram account. The film series is currently having its first institutional screening as a narrative film at the Whitney Museum.
The film installation is organized by Rujeko Hocley, Arhold Associate Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art. The screening is on the first floor at the Whitney located in the Lobby Gallery. Entrance to the Lobby Gallery is always free - no ticket required. You can stop by during Museum hours and experience this screening series for yourself.
The room has seating in varying degrees and angles, so prepare to cozy in with your fellow art goers and embrace the viewing of healing.
The Whitney Museum of American Art is at 99 Gansevoort Street in Manhattan. The film series 2 Lizards is on view until February 2023.
