DOCS AS NEWS Panel Nov 15 @DOC NYC Festival

(released 10/16/2013)

DOC NYC will take place November 14-21, 2013 at the IFC Center and SVA Theatre. The festival has been birthed from the IFC Center's weekly Tuesday night documentary series Stranger than Fiction that regularly sells all seats. The mission of the festival is to bring global audiences together in public spaces to discuss, socialize and engage with the collective artists, subjects of documentary film and those sharing a world view. The IFC Center, located in Greenwich Village, utilizes the Washington Square community to create the space for executing their mission.

DOCS AS NEWS is scheduled for 3:15 PM, Friday, November 15, 2013 at the IFC Center.  This free ticketed panel is expecting Dan Cogan (Impact Partners) to lead filmmakers Andrew Jarecki (Capturing the Friedmans), Tom Yellin (President, DocGroup) and writer Philip Gourevitch (The New Yorker) in a discussion of how documentary films are increasingly becoming the source of breaking news. The group will look at the role of the documentary filmmaker, the journalist and how one may be considered essentially both roles. Tickets will be made available starting October 17, 2013.

The festival is set to announce more upcoming events. For more information, tickets to the panel, and to stay up to date, go to the DOC NYC website www.docnyc.net.
