British Writers Get American Feedback NYTVF 2013

(released 11/7/2013)

New York Television Festival 2013 partnered with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) to highlight some of Britain's promising comedy writers on October 23, 2013 as part of the NYTVF.

BAFTA and the Rocliffe New Writing Forum held a U.K.-wide competition prior to the evening to narrow down the submissions to three scripts.  That night, actors took the stage to give additional depth to each selected writing.  Delivering the material to an audience and the critical eyes and ears of the festival's Industry Chair Greg Daniels, the players went from the page in the reading.

Daniels is known for contributing to The Simpsons, creating the American sitcom The Office as well as the show Parks and Recreation. Daniels' experience navigating the American sitcom scene, from writing to handling industry demands and working with the actors, allowed the British standouts to gain insight to a market they all expressed interest in entering.

Daniels went between sitting with the audience and taking the stage.  Always with his number two pencil and clipboard, he jotted notes to address positives and places of improvement for each of the writers. Daniels' advice focused on details to develop a sitcom that an American audience and industry will consume.

Below are a few shots of the actors and Daniels in action.
