The Center at West Park is hosting a night of silent films accompanied by live music by Ben Model. Model has been doing these performances at other locations including Nitehawk Cinema and NYPL's Library for the Performing Arts.
The Center at West Park has been making news the past few years because the building is old and needs major repairs. The Center is part of a landmarked church at 86th Street on the Upper West Side.
Celebrities have been rallying around the Center to keep it running as the owners, West Park Presbyterian Church, has been trying to delist the property as a landmark. They wish to sell the building to developers. Some of the celebrities have included Mark Ruffalo, Laurence Fishburne, Matthew Broderick, and Matt Damon.
Back to the silent film night, Ben Model will be playing his portable theatre organ to the following films: In The Rink (1916), The Scarecrow (1920), Dog Shy (1925), and Two Tars (1928).
This screening and performance event is taking place March 20, 2025 at 7:30pm. Doors open at 7pm. The Center at West Park is located at 165 West 86th Street in Manhattan. Tickets are $17.85 and available at:
